What's new in HDL Companion 2.3

HDL Companion 2.3 includes several new features and improvements compared to version 2.2.
The most important changes are:

Project Creation

Mentor Modelsim and Aldec Riviera scripts can be used to create a HDL Companion project.

The File Filters have been extended with an allow mechanism. It can be used to only show VHDL or Verilog files in the File View.

Coding Standards

Coding standards rules (based on regular expression) can be defined for all kind of object names (entities, ports, signals, etc) and verified.

Detailed / Hierarchical View:

If-Generate and For-Generate now have distinct symbols and the generate scheme is shown in the label.

When a large amount of instances (of the same component) are present in a VHDL architecture or Verilog module, they are grouped into a single instance and the number of instantiations is shown in the label.

Scriptum Editor

The Scriptum editor can be activated as a standalone top level window.

Miscellaneous

  • Support for Verilog Include directories
  • Look and feel update to Windows XP.
  • Several VHDL & Verilog parser performance enhancements (both in speed and memory usage).
  • Directories shown in the File View because the files were explicitly added to the project have a red exclamation mark in the icon to denote this special situation.
  • The properties of a list of directories can be edited in one dialog.
